Following the Zagreb-based laboratory, KONČAR – Institute of Electrical Engineering has commenced the construction of another new Laboratory for Large Electric Drives and Machines in the municipality of Bedekovčina. The investment, worth more than 20 million euros, represents an important strategic step forward for KONČAR, but also for the development of the municipality of Bedekovčina.

With a testing area of 2,700 square meters and a height of 28 meters, the new laboratory will become one of the rare facilities of such size and testing capabilities in Europe.
The laboratory will be specialized in conducting type, special, research, and development testing of high-voltage equipment. In terms of technical characteristics, it will be on par with leading global laboratories. It will enable the testing of the most advanced technologies in the power sector with a special emphasis on the green transition. The laboratory’s testing activities will focus on testing power equipment for direct current transmission of electricity, i.e., HVDC (High-Voltage Direct Current) cables and converters from renowned global manufacturers.

The investment brings multiple benefits to the local community. The municipality of Bedekovčina thus gains an additional boost in technological development and growth, as well as in enhancing the competitiveness of the economy. The project will further strengthen the region as an important location for the development of innovations and high technologies in the energy sector. In addition, it will provide opportunities for the employment of highly educated professionals.

The construction of the laboratory is an investment in the future and the strengthening of the competitiveness of the Croatian energy sector. Furthermore, this step will enable the expansion of services to international markets and contribute to the global transition towards more efficient, reliable, and sustainable energy systems. This laboratory complex confirms KONČAR’s commitment to developing top-tier solutions, strengthening industrial excellence, and ensuring a prominent position among leading global players in the field of high-voltage testing.
