Following the establishment of its laboratory in Zagreb, KONČAR – Electrical Engineering Institute has begun the construction of another new laboratory for large electrical machines and drives in the Municipality of Bedekovčina. The investment, valued at more than EUR 20 million, represents an important strategic step forward for KONČAR, as well as for the further development of the Municipality of Bedekovčina.
With a testing area of 2,700 square metres and a height of 28 metres, the new laboratory will become one of the few facilities in Europe of this scale and with such advanced testing capabilities.
The laboratory will specialise in type, special, research and development testing of high-voltage equipment. In terms of its technical capabilities, it will be on par with the world’s leading laboratories. It will enable the testing of state-of-the-art technologies in the power sector, with a particular focus on the green transition. Testing activities will primarily focus on equipment for high-voltage direct current (HVDC) power transmission, including HVDC cables and converters produced by leading global manufacturers.
The investment will also bring significant benefits to the local community. It will provide the Municipality of Bedekovčina with an additional impetus for technological development and economic growth, while strengthening the competitiveness of the local economy. The project will further position the region as an important hub for innovation and advanced energy technologies. In addition, it will create new employment opportunities for highly qualified professionals.
The construction of the laboratory represents an investment in the future and in strengthening the competitiveness of Croatia’s energy sector. It will also enable KONČAR to expand its services to international markets and contribute to the global transition towards more efficient, reliable and sustainable energy systems.
Through this new laboratory complex, KONČAR further demonstrates its commitment to developing cutting-edge solutions, strengthening industrial excellence and securing a prominent position among the world’s leading players in the field of high-voltage testing.
